This season hasn't been kind to the Mattamuskeet Lakers, who are still winless after their sixth contest. They had to suffer through a rough 37-5 loss at the hands of Hobgood Charter. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mattamuskeet in their matchups with Hobgood Charter: they've now lost three in a row.
Mattamuskeet's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Kensley Cox and ANGIE MENDOZA. Cox scored three points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, while MENDOZA scored two points along with five rebounds and three steals. Cox is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mattamuskeet struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hobgood Charter posted eight assists.
Janiya Blanding continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hobgood Charter, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Emma Rae Cannon, who scored six points along with four steals.
Mattamuskeet's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Hobgood Charter, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattamuskeet will face off against Pungo Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pungo Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday. As for Hobgood Charter, they will head out on the road to square off against Columbia at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
