Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Perryton Rangers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 70-13 defeat at the hands of the Tigers on Friday. While losing is never fun, Perryton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 541st, while Glen Rose is ranked 255th).
Defeat or not, Perryton got some senior leadership from Julian Cervantes who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries and Samuel Perez who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Canyon Evans was his usual excellent self, throwing for 298 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt, and also punching in a rushing scores for Glen Rose. Evans has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Brewton, who rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Glen Rose's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Keltyn Raymond was the leader with two sacks.
Perryton's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Glen Rose, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.
Perryton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Glen Rose will be playing in front of their home fans against Seminole at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Seminole's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
