Katy put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to Seven Lakes for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-7 victory at home. Given Katy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Seven Lakes is ranked 685th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Katy relied on the efforts of Tremayne Hill, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and Romel Jordan, who rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Hill hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Chase Johnsey was in the mix too, providing Katy with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Katy Taylor's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Paetow by a score of 13-10.
Katy's victory bumped their season record to 8-1 while Katy Taylor's loss dropped theirs to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Katy against Katy Taylor in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 49-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Katy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
