Dock Mennonite will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against The Christian Academy on Wednesday. Avery Kutzner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Nora Osifchin was incredible, firing off four doubles, four RBI, and two runs while going 4-for-5. Those doubles were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lydia Ehst, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Dock Mennonite kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Faith Christian Academy.
Calvary Christian Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Benjamin, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Calvary Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Dock Mennonite, their record is now 5-3.
Calvary Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Dock Mennonite has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Calvary Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Dock Mennonite keep running through batters, or will the Cougars buck the trend?
Everything went Dock Mennonite's way against Calvary Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Dock Mennonite made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
