Cascade is 8-2 against Newport since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Cascade's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Newport has been banged up by 13 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Cascade and Stayton had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 3-2.
Taylor Bays spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Pearl Pruett was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Newport hadn't done well against Philomath recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cubs blew past the Warriors 16-1. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for the Cubs this season.
The team relied heavily on Brehenna Baley, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Baby Garrett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Newport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Newport's win bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Cascade, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Newport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Cascade's hitters?
Everything went Cascade's way against Newport in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Cascade made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
