Cedar Ridge and Person are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. The Cedar Ridge Fighting Red Wolves will face off against the Person Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Cedar Ridge lost 57-31 to Williams on Friday. The Fighting Red Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Cedar Ridge had strong showings from Kate Finnegan, who posted six points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Kassidy Tolliver, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.
Even though they lost, Cedar Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Williams only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Person was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 77-39 loss at the hands of Western Alamance. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while the Warriors are ranked 24th).
Cedar Ridge will need focus on slowing down Nayahana Marner, one of several Person players who made an impact when they last played. She went 6 for 10 en route to 14 points. Marner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Destyni Harris was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.
Cedar Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Person, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Cedar Ridge came up short against Person in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 30-25. Can Cedar Ridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
