Coalfield extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Wartburg Central Bulldogs, falling 11-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellow Jackets of the 5-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.
Gracie Davis made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Wartburg Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-5. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
On Wartburg Central's side, Braylen Melton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave Melton a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Wartburg Central let Shelby Kelly and Presley Morgan run wild. Kelly went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Morgan went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Kelly has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Bradlee Sexton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
