Gabriella Bird was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Calvary Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Sofia Fine, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Reese Mittauer was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Calvary Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pine Crest). They won by a run and slipped past Highlands Christian 24-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted against the Knights since April 9, 2019.
Ava Karinattu was a standout: she scored three runs while going 4-for-5. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mia Farber, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Calvary Christian Academy pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Pine Crest, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvary Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pine Crest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Calvary Christian Academy's way against Pine Crest when the teams last played back in February, as Calvary Christian Academy made off with a 21-2 win. Does Calvary Christian Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pine Crest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
