The Grapevine Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Coronado by a score of 67-65. While losing is never fun, Grapevine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while Coronado is ranked 252nd).
Grapevine's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew E woodcock, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Lowack, who scored 14 points.
Grapevine has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Coronado, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
Grapevine won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lubbock at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Lubbock is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Coronado is on the road again on Saturday and play against Eastwood at 9:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Eastwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
