The Winfield Vikings were the 81-46 winner over the El Dorado Wildcats when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Winfield took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of El Dorado on Tuesday.
Winfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Moree, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Moree hasn't dropped below 16 points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Kellen Gibson, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Winfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
El Dorado was led to victory by Chase Lesh and Logan Garner. Lesh scored 16 points along with five steals and two blocks, while Garner scored 22 points along with five assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lesh has scored all season. Sam Greene was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Winfield's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12. As for El Dorado, their victory ended a 17-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-13.
Winfield will take on McPherson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. McPherson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 matchups -- so hopefully Winfield likes a good challenge. As for El Dorado, they will head out on the road to take on Wellington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. El Dorado will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Wellington is ranked 74th).
