The Elbert Bulldogs will face off against the Kit Carson Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Elbert is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
Elbert is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Cheyenne Wells just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 40-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since December 17, 2024.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Eli Cornell, who posted 14 points and four steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Cornell, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 11 points and five steals.
Meanwhile, Kit Carson strolled past Hanover with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 41-27. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Elbert better keep an eye on Josiah Irwin. He was instrumental in Kit Carson's win, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Irwin has scored at least a third of Kit Carson's points. Junior Farmer was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.
Kit Carson's victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Elbert, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Elbert has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kit Carson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Elbert against Kit Carson in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured a 48-14 win. In that matchup, Elbert amassed a halftime lead of 36-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
