The El Dorado Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 76-54 defeat at the hands of Franklin. While losing is never fun, El Dorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 535th, while Franklin is ranked 124th).
Despite the defeat, El Dorado had strong showings from Hannah Hicks, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and three steals, and Jasmyn Munoz, who scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Aryam Gomez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, El Dorado were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Franklin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Balsiger, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 1 assists. The match was Balsiger's 20th in a row with at least ten points. Lorianne Bueno was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
El Dorado has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Franklin, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.
El Dorado will head out on the road to face off against Eastlake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Franklin, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Coronado at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Tuesday.
