The Bullard Knights''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Sanger, falling 42-14. While losing is never fun, Bullard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 296th, while Sanger is ranked 54th).
Bullard's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Dominick Gonzalez, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Leading Sanger to victory were Bryson Baker and Israel Robles. Baker gained 134 total yards and three touchdowns, while Robles rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Robles was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Carlos Young was another key contributor, rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Bullard's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.7 points per game. As for Sanger, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Bullard does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sanger will be playing at home against San Joaquin Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. San Joaquin Memorial and Sanger are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
