They put the hurt on Pocahontas County with a sharp 75-51 win on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for James Monroe as they're now sitting on three straight.
James Monroe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mary Beth Meadows, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten assists. The contest was Meadows' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maggie Boroski, who scored 20 points along with nine steals and six rebounds.
Pocahontas County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kynlee Wilfong, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds, and Allyson Taylor who scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Even though they lost, Pocahontas County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Monroe only racked up 18 assists.
James Monroe's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Pocahontas County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. James Monroe will challenge Greenbrier East at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Greenbrier East's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for Pocahontas County, they will head out on the road to face off against Summers County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
