Kingstree posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Lamar as Kingstree made off with a 62-42 victory. Given Kingstree's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Lamar is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Micheal Kelly was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Ashton Woods, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Andrews suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Wednesday. Their rough 55-35 loss to Marion might stick with them for a while.
Despite the defeat, Andrews had strong showings from Chris Stewart, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, and Vincent Rhue, who scored 17 points along with two blocks. Stewart also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season.
Kingstree's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Andrews, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Kingstree have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Andrews, though, as they've been averaging only 24.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kingstree came up short against Andrews in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 67-59. Can Kingstree avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
