Basketball Recap: Lely Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Zashlie Andris and Alysa Jada Vasquez

After a string of four wins, Lely's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 50-39 to the Canterbury Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Cougars are ranked 100th).

Lely's loss came despite strong showings from Alysa Jada Vasquez and Zashlie Andris. Vasquez posted 18 points, while Andris earned 11 points. Those 18 points gave Vasquez a new career-high.

Lely's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12. As for Canterbury, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lely has already played their next game (against Bonita Springs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Canterbury will challenge Evangelical Christian on Thursday. Evangelical Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Canterbury surely won't give up without a fight.
