Elgin proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 39) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lucas Cubs, sneaking past 18-15. The win was nothing new for the Comets as they're now sitting on three straight.
Elgin was led to victory by Jack Van Gundy and Zack Bowers. Van Gundy rushed for 80 yards and a pair of scores, while Bowers rushed for 102 yards and one TD on only eight carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 81 yards.
Elgin's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Lucas, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Elgin will head out to take on Waynesfield-Goshen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lucas, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Reynolds at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
