Baseball Recap: Dupont's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

DuPont's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Glasgow Dragons a 12-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Tigers' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Bryan Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because DuPont is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-10 otherwise. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, DuPont got a massive performance out of Xavier Ramos, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Ramos has posted since back in March. Julius Ramos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

DuPont's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11. As for Glasgow, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DuPont will venture away from home to face off against Christiana at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.43 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Glasgow, they will head out to square off against Red Lion Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
