Manor (Texas) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 10 points, drop to four before the final whistle blew on a 17-13 victory over
Elgin (Texas).
The lead that the Mustangs took on a
Brandon Donnermeyer touchdown run with 6:00 to go in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
The final score was a stunner, as Manor was ranked No. 364 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Texas, far below the Wildcats' spot at No. 210.
Donnermeyer was the top performer for MHS. He ran for one touchdown.
Elgin's
Raul Pena played well. The junior kicked one extra point.
The Mustangs came in allowing an average of 23.0 points per game this season. Manor held firm on the defensive front, and kept EHS well below the 33.4 points it had been averaging per game.
A 40-29 Manor victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Mustangs, which lost to Georgetown last week, 43-8. The loss comes after Elgin defeated Hutto 35-14 last week.
In a 4A Region III District 17 game next week Manor (3-3) takes on East View, and Elgin (3-3) will go up against Pflugerville Connally also in a 4A Region III District 17 game.
