The Iona Prep Gaels had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took down Bowne 63-48 on Saturday. Given Iona Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Wildcats are ranked 157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Darrel Taylor, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. Messiah Person-Kennedy was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Iona Prep's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Bowne, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.
Iona Prep won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Friars at 3:45 p.m. on February 4th. Hopefully St. Anthony's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Bowne does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
