The Eagle Pass Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Clemens Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Eagle Pass comes in on seven and Clemens on three.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Eagle Pass and Medina Valley meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.
Eagle Pass got a great performance from Sofia Torres as she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Torres has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eagle Pass let Karina Gomez and Michelle Torralba run wild. Gomez went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Torralba went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Krysta Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Clemens came out on top against Judson on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Buffaloes walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Rockets.
Alexus Worthy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Arnold, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Bradie Martinez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Clemens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.
Eagle Pass pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Clemens, their record now sits at 19-7.
Both Eagle Pass and Clemens just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Clemens struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eagle Pass came out on top in a nail-biter against Clemens in their previous matchup back in February of 2017, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
