Northside Christian Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Evie Godfrey, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 steals, and Chaelyn Tifre, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. Godfrey's evening made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Howell, who posted 12 points.
Northside Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cardinal Newman). They blew past Mead Hall Episcopal School 67-29 on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.
Northside Christian Academy better focus on containing Kristin Moye and Irene Bocanegra Garcia as the pair were huge in Cardinal Newman's win. Moye went 11 of 22 on her way to 25 points along with six steals and five assists, while Bocanegra Garcia went 11 for 13 en route to 22 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Moye is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Taylor Laubacker was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to eight steals and six boards.
Northside Christian Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.5 points. As for Cardinal Newman, their win bumped their record up to 3-12.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Northside Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.3 points per game. It's a different story for Cardinal Newman, though, as they've been averaging only 34.3 points. The only thing between Northside Christian Academy and another offensive beatdown is Cardinal Newman. Will they be able to keep them contained?
