The Seminary Bulldogs will venture away from home to challenge the Florence Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Seminary is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Seminary proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Taylorsville, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Tartars since March 3, 2015.
Landon Bush was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric McCullum, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also stole a stolen base, marking his first of the season. Noah Napier was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Florence put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Pisgah 11-3. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Seminary, Florence also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah Reynolds. Throwing, Reynolds tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Andrew Woods tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, Reynolds posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. At the plate, Reynolds went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Woods went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Brady Griffin was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jaboris Buckley, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Seminary has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. Florence's record is now 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seminary has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
