The Southside Seahawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by East Carteret 81-35. Southside was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-13.
Southside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zymere Wiggins, who scored seven points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Joshua Armstrong, who scored eight points.
Leading East Carteret to victory were Shamel Baker and Charles Matheka. Baker scored 21 points, while Matheka scored 24 points. Matheka hasn't dropped below 19 points for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Thammavongsa, who scored 12 points.
Southside dropped their record down to 3-20 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for East Carteret, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Southside will head out on the road to face off against Jones at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Southside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday. As for East Carteret, they will head out on the road to face off against Lejeune at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Carteret has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 765 points over their last ten contests.
