Eastside Catholic is 7-1 against Garfield since September of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on December 5th. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Eastside Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Garfield will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Eastside Catholic got themselves on the board against Rainier Beach, but Rainier Beach never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 42-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Eastside Catholic, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Eastside Catholic can attribute much of their success to Jake Tiryakioglu, who threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Garfield took a serious blow against O'Dea on Friday, falling 49-13. While losing is never fun, Garfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while O'Dea is ranked second).
The win was the third in a row for Eastside Catholic, bringing their record for this year to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.33 points. As for Garfield, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Everything went Eastside Catholic's way against Garfield in their previous meeting on October 6th as Eastside Catholic made off with a 31-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastside Catholic since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
