The Brea Olinda Wildcats will take on the Sonora Raiders at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Sonora will be up against a hot Brea Olinda squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Wildcats' way against Sunny Hills on Thursday as they made off with a 10-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Nicholas Rodriguez tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Michael Russell was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Connor Perez, who earned two RBI and one run.
Brea Olinda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunny Hills only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Sonora hadn't done well against Woodrow Wilson recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Raiders were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bruins. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by exactly six runs.
Caleb Orr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Orr was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Webster, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Brea Olinda's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Brea Olinda took their win against Sonora in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
