Basketball Game Preview: Trinity Christian Tigers vs. New Bern Christian Academy

The Trinity Christian Tigers will head out to challenge New Bern Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Trinity Christian's defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so New Bern Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Trinity Christian is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Greenville Christian Academy just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since February 2, 2024.

Despite their loss, Trinity Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Riley Burnham, who posted 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals, was perhaps the best of all. Burnham has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Kenna Overton was another key player, going 6 for 8 on her way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Trinity Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, New Bern Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Jacksonville Christian Academy on Tuesday, taking the game 56-47.

New Bern Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Trinity Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-4.

Trinity Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over New Bern Christian Academy in their previous matchup on Friday, winning 47-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Trinity Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
