Lilee Zarate made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Zarate was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jordyn Caintic was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Amari Jaramillo, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
St. Pius X hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Volcano Vista on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 16-15. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Albuquerque has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. St. Pius X's win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Pius X has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Albuquerque struggles in that department as they've averaged .534. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
