Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 22 to 8 on the offensive boards, a fact the Fairfield Falcons proved on Tuesday. They snuck past Stafford with a 46-41 win. That's another feather in the cap for Fairfield, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mikayla Pugh was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Schwertfeger, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Stafford still got an impressive performance from Taylor Denio, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 39% of Stafford's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Madilyn Hearn was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Fairfield now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Stafford, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Fairfield will be playing at home against Goessel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Stafford's road trip will continue as they head out to face Central Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
