Two dominant guards in Anthony Nettles and Cal Baskind are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Douglas County Huskies will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Douglas County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Douglas County came up short against Heritage and fell 62-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Douglas County came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Heritage is ranked 96th).
Despite their defeat, Douglas County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Vaughn Baldwin, who scored 11 points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Baldwin is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Nettles, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Dakota Ridge 83-53 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-22.
Baskind continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with four steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Hoefs, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.
Douglas County's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Mountain Vista, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
