After flying high against the Wasatch Academy Tigers last Wednesday, the American Prep WV Eagles came back down to earth. American Prep WV was the victim of a tough 58-38 loss at the hands of Rockwell on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss American Prep WV has suffered against Rockwell since February 5, 2019.
Despite the defeat, American Prep WV saw an underclassman step up: Jimena Cortes scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cortes has scored all season. Yom Mapuor was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
American Prep WV's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7. As for Rockwell, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American Prep WV will take on Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams is ranked 128th, while American Prep WV is ranked 132nd). Rockwell won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Milford at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Milford is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
