The Bishop England Battling Bishops will square off against the Woodland Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bishop England will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Bishop England hadn't beaten Porter-Gaud on the road since September 11, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Battling Bishops enjoyed a cozy 40-23 victory over the Cyclones.
Bishop England's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quinn Mahoney, who threw for 201 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 52 yards and a pair of scores. Brody Tonon was another key player, gaining 133 total yards and two touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Bishop England proved: they limited Porter-Gaud to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Tonon stood above the rest. He picked up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 54 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Bishop England didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.5.

Bishop England didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Knox Mahoney, Zachary Balog, and Hunter Alex picked up one apiece. Alex is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made nine or more in each of the last three games he's played. Chase Tonon was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 48-7, which was the final score in Woodland's tilt against Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Friday. The loss was the Wolverines' first of the season.
Bishop England's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Woodland, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Bishop England strolled past Woodland in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a score of 27-10. Do the Battling Bishops have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
