The Genoa-Kingston Cogs will venture away from home to take on the Byron Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Genoa-Kingston has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Genoa-Kingston came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 18-4 to North Boone.
Elizabeth Davis made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Kaylee Luepkes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Byron made easy work of Lutheran on Tuesday and carried off a 14-3 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Hadley Dolan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last seven games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jaidra Poe was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Alannah Bauer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Byron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran only posted a batting average of .250.
Byron's record is now 6-12. As for Genoa-Kingston, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-12.
Genoa-Kingston might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Byron when the teams last played on Saturday. Can the Cogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
