The Delta Charter Storm will head out to face off against the Grant Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Delta Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Grant will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Delta Charter extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Storm came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against LaSalle. While the Storm didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Tristan Burns made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Burns was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leyton Mullins, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Carter Clayton also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Grant duked it out with LaSalle on Thursday. The Cougars walked away with a 9-4 win over the Tigers.
Like Delta Charter, Grant also got a great game from a two-way player: Myles Futrell. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Futrell was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grant's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-13 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Cole Pepiton and Landen Fletcher did most of the damage at the plate: Pepiton went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Fletcher went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Grant is 4-1 when Pepiton posts two or more runs, but 0-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Braxton Woodard, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Grant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.
Delta Charter's record now sits at 7-4. As for Grant, their record is now 4-13.
Grant's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Delta Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Grant, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Delta Charter's hitters?
Delta Charter came up short against Grant in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, falling 16-12. Can the Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
