1A Special District 5 (8 Man) recap November 5, 2013
Lowell added to the longest winning streak in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Mapleton, 82-14. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Devils.
The Sailors were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after losing to Lowell. Mapleton came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
McKenzie's dynamic duo of Bailey Adams and Casey Mitchell proved tough for Yoncalla to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Adams threw for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns and Mitchell had 87 yards receiving. Eric Huffman helped McKenzie's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 57 yards.
Geoff Payne was a beast in the backfield as the Eagles topped the Eagles.
Payne was a passing and rushing force as Yoncalla beat McKenzie. Payne's favorite target this week was Zack Van Loon, who caught 2 passes for 30 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Jeff Greene's team's Tucker Ford and Justin Schaaf have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Ford has thrown for 1,893 yards this season, while Schaaf has 35 catches for 885 yards. Matt Bragg's team's Payne leads the league in rushing yards with 2,399.
The Sailors fell to the Devils 82-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brody Ford threw for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns and caught 3 passes for 80 yards in the defeat.
