The Steele Knights are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Dripping Springs Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Steele rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Hawks as they made off with a 48-27 win. Given Steele's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Harlan is ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chad Warner was his usual excellent self, throwing for 281 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Steele also got help from Jalen Cooper who showed off his sure hands for 82 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Dripping Springs waltzed into Saturday's match with five straight wins but they left with six. They put the hurt on Jay with a sharp 50-27 victory.
Dripping Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaceton Gotta, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Gotta was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Williams, who threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Steele to 12-1 and Harlan to 12-1.
Saturday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Steele has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dripping Springs struggles in that department as they've been even better at 223.5 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
