The South Fork Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Centennial Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
South Fork is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Martin County just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6.
Rachel Kramer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Carrier, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Centennial fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Jensen Beach on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-2.
Makayla Megnauth spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Centennial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rayne Cohen, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
South Fork's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Fork has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Fork skirted past Centennial 5-3 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
