Basketball Recap: Proviso East Sets Scoring Season-High Against Leyden

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Proviso East). They really took it to the Leyden Eagles for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-32 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pirates have posted since November 18, 2023.

Proviso East was led to victory by Ava Kimble and Camiya Marshall. Kimble went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points along with four steals and three blocks, while Marshall went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Those 19 points gave Kimble a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casandra Moore, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Proviso East was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 5.8.

Proviso East pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Leyden, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.

Proviso East won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Crete-Monee at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Proviso East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Leyden, they will take on Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Leyden is facing Lincoln at the right time seeing as Lincoln is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
