After flying high against the Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers last Tuesday, the Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights came back down to earth. Macon-East Montgomery Academy fell to Valiant Cross Academy 54-48. While losing is never fun, Macon-East Montgomery Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Valiant Cross Academy is ranked 66th).
Macon-East Montgomery Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Johnson, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds, and Keagan Roney who scored 15 points along with six steals. Roney continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Deshawn Hall was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds for Valiant Cross Academy. Hall is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of John Cosby, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Valiant Cross Academy, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 20-4.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Springwood at 12:00 p.m. on January 26th. The timing is sure in Springwood's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home while Macon-East Montgomery Academy has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Valiant Cross Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
