The Washington Pam Pack will challenge the Eastern Wayne Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Washington is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against SouthWest Edgecombe on Friday. They lost 12-2 to the Cougars. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Washington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carly Woolard, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over North Pitt. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Mallory Reed made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Eastern Wayne got a massive performance out of Avery Vick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave Vick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anari Baker-Ellerby, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Eastern Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Eastern Wayne pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Washington was able to grind out a solid win over Eastern Wayne in their previous meeting on April 1st, winning 4-1. Do the Pam Pack have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
