Pine Valley Central hasn't had much luck against Frewsburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will take on the Bears at 5:00 p.m.
Pine Valley Central is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 31st straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Brocton, falling 9-1.
Pine Valley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camryn Slade, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Frewsburg had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs.
Aidan Gruber tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chase Haglund was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Frewsburg: the team is 13-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Sheesley, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Frewsburg's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Pine Valley Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
Pine Valley Central might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Frewsburg when the teams last played back in April. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
