Basketball Recap: Deedee Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Worthing over Yates

Worthing lost against Yates back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Worthing Colts fell 53-42 to the Yates Lions. The matchup marked the Colts' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Worthing's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DeeDee Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Williams has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times she's played. Khole Reed was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.

Yates found their leader in freshman Karneshia Smith, who went 12 of 24 on her way to 25 points along with seven steals and five boards. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taniyah Cooper, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and five blocks.

Worthing's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Yates, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Worthing wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-35 loss against Stafford on the 31st. As for Yates, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Furr at 7:15 p.m. on January 7th.
