MODESTO, Calif. - Special teams carried
Stone Ridge Christian (Merced, Calif.) to a 40-13 victory over
Big Valley Christian (Modesto, Calif.) on Saturday as the return units contributed one touchdowns. The special teams of the Knights scored on a kick return.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jaime Trevino in the first quarter, Stone Ridge Christian led 32-1 at the half.
SRC expanded its lead to 38 points entering the fourth quarter. The Merced school's lone score in the quarter came on a
Bailey Dahlhoff touchdown run.
Even though the Knights led by 38 points at the start of the fourth quarter, they didn't let up, scoring 13 in the quarter.
Stone Ridge Christian came in allowing an average of 25.8 points per game this season. A defensively strong SRC kept the Lions well below the 21.3 points it had been averaging per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Merced school, which was coming off a 50-20 defeat at the hands of Brookside Christian in its previous game. The loss comes after Big Valley Christian defeated Elliot Christian 36-22 last week.
