On Friday, The Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon faced the Flanagan/Woodland Falcons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon was outmatched by Flanagan/Woodland at home and fell 49-6. Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Flanagan/Woodland apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
TJ Smith threw for 88 yards on two of 15 attempts. Matt Schumacher was his top target, gaining 75 total yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Cuda Cline rushed for 64 yards.
Flanagan/Woodland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Payton Quaintance, who rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Another player making a difference was Kesler Collins, who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Flanagan/Woodland, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Flanagan/Woodland will be playing at home against South Beloit at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Beloit is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
