The Fleming County Panthers will face off against the Nicholas County Bluejackets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fleming County is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Fleming County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Bryan Station on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Defenders by a score of 4-3.
Fleming County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jett Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Preston Cropper was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Nicholas County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bracken County, sneaking past 10-9. With that win, the Bluejackets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Jayden Robinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Nicholas County's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 12-16 when he doesn't). Robinson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 matchups.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cash Linville, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for Nicholas County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 13-18 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Ritchie, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Fleming County's loss dropped their record down to 16-15. As for Nicholas County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-18 record.
Fleming County was able to grind out a solid win over Nicholas County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 5-1. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Bluejackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
