Basketball Recap: Sumner's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of four wins, Sumner's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost 91-71 to the Sickles Gryphons.

Several Stingrays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bennard Anson, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Anson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Immanuel Kelly, who went 6 of 13 en route to 16 points.

Sickles' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eddy Hernandez, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Hernandez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Jackson Byam was another key player, going 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points.

Sumner's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11. As for Sickles, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sickles, they will take on Largo at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Largo has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Sickles will come in with eight straight wins.
