Not much got past Gianna Furlano, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Prospect off the board. Furlano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ariana O'Connell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gaetana Calo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Charles East sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Wheaton North on Wednesday.
Kyli Dunn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, St. Charles East saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Majkszak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Lake Park's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for St. Charles East, their win bumped their record up to 16-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Lake Park hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Charles East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lake Park was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Charles East when the teams last played last Thursday, winning 6-2. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Fighting Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
