The Skyview Hawks will challenge the Sandpoint Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Skyview is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 17 games.
Skyview is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Bonneville 4-3. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by just one run.
Skyview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Russell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Sandpoint faced Twin Falls in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Bruins 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 7th.
Sage Medeiros and Brennan Shaw were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Medeiros struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Shaw pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Medeiros went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Shaw went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That home run was Medeiros' first of the season.
In other batting news, Mason Little was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.
Sandpoint was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in 11 consecutive contests.
Skyview's record is now 21-3. As for Sandpoint, their record now sits at 23-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Skyview has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Sandpoint struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyview got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2019 against Sandpoint by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
