Poplarville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiyah Jones, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tameah Bester, who scored ten points.
Greene County was led to victory by Rakhiya Moody and Zamiah Knight. Moody scored ten points along with two steals, while Knight scored 17 points along with three steals. Moody hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Shannon Johnson, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Poplarville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for Greene County, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poplarville will square off against Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bay will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Poplarville surely won't give up without a fight. Greene County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Poplarville at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Poplarville is coming into the match with four straight losses at home, meaning Greene County will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
