Edgewood and Havre de Grace are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Edgewood Rams will be playing at home against the Havre de Grace Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Edgewood has not done well against Bel Air recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Edgewood simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bel Air 60-23 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Edgewood has posted since December 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, Havre de Grace made easy work of Joppatowne on Friday and carried off a 45-19 victory. Given Havre de Grace's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Joppatowne is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Havre de Grace's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Lawrence led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lawrence posted two or more blocks. Azareya Whiting was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six steals.
Edgewood's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Havre de Grace, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Edgewood came up short against Havre de Grace when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 37-27. Can Edgewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
